"It is a small, rounded, hexagonal iron kettle. Its distinctive feature is that traditional Japanese patterns such as "seigaiha," "tortoiseshell," and "diamond" are cast on each of the six sides as a base pattern, on which the motifs of plum, chrysanthemum, orchid, and bamboo are expressed.
In ancient China, plum, chrysanthemum, orchid, and bamboo were often featured as subjects in calligraphy, paintings, and poetry, as plants that represent the noble form of a gentleman.
Plum is beautiful even in the cold, and is the first to announce the arrival of spring.
Chrysanthemum is light on the body, improves the energy, and extends one's lifespan.
Orchid has the fragrance of a good person, like a king.
Bamboo is hollow, which is why it is beneficial.
The combination of these four types of patterns was called the "Four Gentlemen."
As you may know, pine, bamboo, and plum have been representative auspicious patterns in Japan since the Heian period.
This piece features a detailed pattern covering the entire surface, bringing out Shobei's distinctive, timeless colors.
It is light and easy to handle, and we recommend it for use in any season or location.
